Rockport Donuts makes great pastries and breakfast sandwiches. Above is a tray of fritters with cherry on the left and apple on the right. They use real chunks of fruit in their fritters, and not many bakeries do that.
We found the place on one trip from the camp we rented to town. Take TX-35 north from Corpus Christi. When you get to Rockport, just head downtown on Liberty Street where you'll find Rockport Donuts just before getting to the coast.
Breakfast Sandwiches!
This is why I come to Rockport Donuts, not for the pastries, but for the breakfast sandwiches, though the pastries will hold their own as well. If you have children or grandchildren, you'll want to get their pastries as well.
Pigs-in-a-Blanket:
They make both small and large pigs-in-a-blanket. Never had the small ones. These are great anytime of the day to fill a belly. Take a mess of them fishing with you.
Jalapeno Pigs-in-a-Blanket:
Take it up a few notches as Emeril would say. Those green specks are not mold, but food coloring to let you know which ones are spiced up. These are really good.
Ham Kolache:
For those of you who are not sausage fans, go for the ham or ham-n-cheese kolaches. Everything is fresh here. They bake a new batch of everything daily and may run out if you don't get there in time.
Biscuits and Croissants:
The biscuit sandwiches are on my bucket list, but did have the croissants and they were great.
Frittas:
The top one is cherry and the bottom one is apple. Yes, someone ate some of both before the photo opt. These fritters are made the old fashion way with chunks of fruit instead of apple sauce like most places do. The glaze and the dough just mix in a way that no chain can replicate. This is my favorite pastry at Rockport Donuts.
Doughnuts:
This place makes a ton of different kinds of doughnuts, but the chocolate is all that my grandchildren eat. From 2 to 16, they just want the chocolate covered ones. So that's what I get.
A Happy Place!
