Tug's Place of Spring Branch

Tug's place is a great place if you like bar food but want to eat in a quiet family restaurant atmosphere, and the place is smoke free.  Those worried about healthy eating, Tug's does have a salad but don't look on my blog for salad photos.

Tug's Place is located on US-281 in Spring Branch just north of the Guadalupe River.  It's about a 30 minute drive from Loop 1604 in San Antonio.  Tug is both the owner and cook and loves to meet with her customers.

Sampler Appetizer Basket:

This is my favorite: jalapeno poppers, cheese sticks, and toothpicks.  The toothpicks are slivers of jalapenos and onions which are lightly breaded and deep-fried.  Sell that one to your internist.

About the only appetizer not in the combo is the tasty, but messy chili-cheese fry basket.  Tug's has all of the wonderful bar appetizers but wings.  I love this place.

Jalapeno Poppers:

Just a word about these guys.  They're seedless and stuffed with either cheddar or cream cheese before being breaded and deep fried.  And this can be ordered as a separate appetizer.

Chili-Cheese Fries

Oh yes!  How is it that the worst food for you tastes so goooood.  The chili-cheese fries are just that way.  Make sure the wait staff gives you a fork.  It's that messy … messy but tasty.

Angus Burger:

i didn't realize how thick Tug's burgers were when I ordered a double.  Could hardly get the burger in my mouth.  Learn from my mistake, the single is plenty big.  Save the double for high-school football players who have just left practice.

Note: Tug uses the Hawaiian sweet buns for both her hamburgers and hotdogs.  If you prefer, she has regular buns on request.

Chicken Strips:

Great chicken strips.  Deep fried to perfection as are the onion rings.  This basket is a belly filler as well.

Oh yeah!  The chili-cheese dogs.  And note the "s" on dogs.  You get two of them.  Yes, two of them piled high with chili, cheese, and red onions.  If you're feeling antisocial, eat two of these, and I guarantee that no one will want to talk with you until you brush your teeth.

Fish Sandwich Special:

Too bad the fried cod sandwich was the special for the day.  I could do with this lunch just about anytime.  And for a few coins more, they will swap the fries for chili-eheese fries.

Orange Crush:

Tug's is one of the few places left that serve Orange Crush, and it does not come in diet.

And Tug does have kids meals on the menu: hamburger, cheeseburger, chicken strips, grilled cheese, hot dog, and chili-cheese dog.  Like I said, Tug's is a family restaurant.
