Chess Club Cafe of Blanco

To the upper left is the inside of a western omelet.  To the right is a piece of the Chess Club's great pan sausage next to a stack of pancakes.  Below is a photo of rich egg yolk oozing out of Eggs Benedict.

The Chess Club is located on US281 on the south side of Blanco.  If you are driving from San Antonio, drive as slow as possible in the right lane after you pass TX30.  It's on the east side of the US281 (right) set back from the road.  If you are driving south from Austin, slow up after crossing the river, but not too slow ... you're in the left lane!  It's still on the east side of the highway (left this time).  Thanks to my friends Terry and Carol for putting me on to this place.  Below is the sign.  Not much of a sign, but the food is great.

Breakfast Choices

Western Omelet:

The Western omelet is one of eight omelets the Chess Club makes and is served with toast and skin-on home fries.  The omelet has ham, onions, tomato, and cheddar.  See the green onions in the potato.

Pancakes & Sausage

This is a bakery, so I figured their pancakes would be good, and they were.  The Chess Club is picky about their pan sausage so this stuff tastes totally unlike the ordinary pork sausage.

Blueberry Pancake & Bacon:

This is really good stuff.  The blueberries are both cooked into the pancake and are rolling all over the plate.  The bacon is cooked crisp.

Chef's Choice:

The Chef's Choice is my choice as well: Eggs Benedict minus the Canadian Bacon and plus the Chess Club's great sausage patties.  Their King's Choice has crab cakes for the meat, and their Queen's Choice has turkey and avocado.

Eggs Benedict:

Eggs Benedict is a traditional gourmet breakfast dish.  Look how rich their hollandaise sauce is!  They have also traditional Eggs Florentine.

Meat Lovers Quiche:

This is good stuff: bacon and sausage with sharp cheddar cheese baked in an egg dish.  Meat Lovers Quiche was on my bucket list.  By the way, I make a spicy Cajun Quiche that I will post in a later blog.

Weekend Special -- Biscuits & Gravy:

Only on Saturday's and Sundays, the Chess Club makes biscuits and gravy.  And forget about Sunday ... unless you're there at opening ... too crowded.  Be sure and get an order of their great sausage to accompany your biscuits and gravy.

Pastries

This is a bakery as well as a restaurant, and they make their own pastries.  Here is a sampling:

Cream Danish ----------------------------------------------------------------

Cinnamon Roll -----------------------------------------------------------------------
