This is a popular Mexican seafood restaurant which has just added breakfast to its repetoir and now opens at 7 a.m. And they give you a mess of food. Pancakes are free with each breakfast plate and they're crisp, neither doughy nor burnt. As Goldilocks would say, "Their pancakes are just right."
This place is located on Blanco Road between Loop 1604 and the I-410 Loop in San Antonio. If you are coming in on 1604, go south when you get to Blanco Road. If you are coming in on I-410, go north on Blanco Road. The restaurant will be on the west side closer to 1604. If you're from out of town, just hop off of I-35 or I-10 onto the I-410 Loop to get there.
Shrimp Omelet:
I was here on Friday during lent and was able to indulge in their shrimp omelet. This is easily three eggs. All breakfast plates come with a mess of hashbrowns and, did I say, free pancakes.
El Bucanero Special:
Pancakes, crisp-meaty bacon, hashbrowns, and a pair of eggs just the way I like them -- over easy. You won't go away from El Bucanero's hungry.
Hot Syrup:
They serve the syrup hot here at El Bucanero's. Great stuff on the pancakes or French toast!
Fajita Omelet:
Fajitas, red onions, and bell pepper sautéed and then tossed into a three egg omelet. White queso (cheese) was melted on top. The green you see is their homemade jalapeno sauce. They will serve flour tortillas on request (see left). The hashbrowns are behind the eggs. The free pancakes are not shown. I couldn't eat all of this and had to waive a white napkin in surrender. This is an Adam Richardson breakfast.
Habanero & Jalapeno Sauces:
Their habenera and jalapeno sauces are homemade and are great on eggs. You can taste the peppers in the sauce. The habenara is particularly hot (of course) but the flavor is wondrous.
French Toast:
The French toast is on my bucket list for my next breakfast trip to El Bucanero's!
Sliced Ham and Egg Plate:
Mega platter! Actually all the plates are mega platters. This one looks bigger because I ordered wheat toast. Their sliced ham is nearly a half inch thick. And look at that habenara sauce on the scrambled eggs. If that won't clean you out later, I don't know what will. At El Bucanero's for breakfast, no one leaves hungry.

Breakfast Burritos:
Breakfast Burritos are also on the menu. They come stuffed with beans, cheese, and rice in addition to whatever the main ingredients are. I like my rice and beans on the side, but the boys in my family love all that mixed together. My guess is that the breakfast burritos are a young person's dish.
